Their arrival co-incided with the recent arrival of a small contingent of the Baggara tribe. Believed to be there to check the gate when it opens. They visited every 3 months (co-inciding with the gate openings).

Marco visited the border police and quized thme about recent visitors. 2 years before there was an expedition from the Schlact Institute (Berne) that got very excited when the measued up lines pointing south. Marco sent a telegram to the Theodoran Society asking they check up on the expedition.

They wake in middle of the night to watch the temple and pre-empt the tribesmen. Party lay in wait for the Baggara sent to collect whatever arrives from the gate. Spotted where they normally watch from and find suitable vantage point.

The action :

• Harry notices not all tribesmen present, goes on long patrol.
• George sees the maelstrum coming down the Nile as the gate opens and erupts turquoise weave.
• Gate opens and Anubis emerges.
• Sinclair takes shots at the Baggara, hitting one.
• Harry encounters 2 sword wielding tribesmen, shoots one in arm.
• Marco runs to gate and "greets" alien, leads hims to cover (alien very stealthy)
• Lyris screams and ducks.
• George provides covering fire
• Harry takes on the 2 tribesmen, downing the first immediately and shooting him for moaning. The second screams and slashes wildly, Harry deftly disarms him.
• Dog headed alien confused and they speak totally different languages.
• Jesus and Mohammed shoot another couple of tribesmen.

Anubis

Party head back to camp to interrogate the Baggara and Ralf (Rauthor). Use Corvus interpretation rings to talk to him. Found out that his race had sent Anubis through and he was a guardian of the gate. He passed on knowledge of the gates :

• Gateways are trails not wormholes
• A race of dragons (a long time ago) explored the galaxy and everywhere they visited they left a trail that others could later follow.
• Worlds can be controlled by a) the world or b) the dragons
• If inhabitants of one world go through to another then the deity will exist in both worlds
